Beautiful. Powerful. Dangerous.
Reynisfjara is famous for its black sand and basalt cliffs, but the ocean here is extremely dangerous. Sudden sneaker waves can rush much farther up the beach than expected and pull people into the sea.
- Stay well away from the water, even when the sea looks calm.
- Never turn your back on the ocean.
- Obey all warning lights, signs, barriers and closures.
- Keep children close; do not climb unstable cliffs or enter dangerous areas.
This information does not replace the safety instructions posted at the beach. Conditions can change quickly.
